Ulaanbaatar metro tender:  submission from 20 companies from 11 countries
The international open tender for provision of consulting services for a metro project is being conducted in two stages, and the first stage closed on 18 March.

In the first stage, 20 companies from 11 countries submitted their offers through www.tender.gov.mn electronic system. The companies are:
Ernst and Young Mongolia Audit, China Railway Design Corporation, NPC Engineering, Baran Israel Ltd, China Railway Fifth Survey and Deisgn Institute Group Co Ltd, Dohwa Engineering Co Ltd, Intercontinental consultants and Tehcnocrats Private limited, Monconsult, Bodi International, Pini Group Ltd, Korea National Railway, Nippon Koei Co Ltd, Zedproject, DB Engineering and Consulting Gmbh, Bureau Veritas Inspection Testing Mongolia LLC, Guangzhou Metro Group Co Ltd, PwC Advisory, RCSC, MCPCGA, Oriental Consultants Global.

The second round of selections will begin after studying the proposals of these companies and obtaining clarifications, finalizing the tender documents and delivering them to the bidders.

The metro will be a single 17,7 km line, 6,6 km of which will be underground. The contract covers consulting services, including the development of the project’s terms of reference and technical specifications.

The metro line to be built in Ulaanbaatar will be 17.7 km long from Tolgoit to Amgalan Market, 6.6 km of which will be underground. It will include 14 stations spaced about 1.3km apart. The line will operate at average speed of 39km/h, with capacity for up to 17,000 passengers an hour.

As of today, citizens of Ulaanbaatar make an average of 2.9 million trips per day. With the introduction of the metro, about 40 percent of those 2.9 million commuters are expected to shift to the metro.

The Government of the Swiss Confederation will provide 215,000 US dollars in aid to overcome dzud faced by Mongolia.

Humanitarian aid will be provided to more than 1,000 herdsmen in Khentii and Dornod provinces, whose spring has been difficult, through the "World Vision" international organization.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Swiss Confederation.
