Industrial Output of Mongolia Reaches MNT 5.1 Trillion
Industrial Output of Mongolia Reaches MNT 5.1 Trillion
In the first two months of 2025, Mongolia's industrial sector produced MNT 5.1 trillion, up MNT 747.1 billion from 2024. This growth was driven by a MNT 492.9 billion increase in the mining sector and MNT 129.5 billion in manufacturing.

Mining production reached MNT 3.5 trillion, with metal ore extraction rising by MNT 280.4 billion and lignite mining by MNT 204.1 billion. Key minerals like iron ore, lignite, zinc, and copper concentrate saw increases of 4.1-92.3%, while iron ore concentrate, unrefined gold, processed coal, and crude oil declined by 0.1-13.6%.
Manufacturing output grew for products like bottled water, soft drinks, cashmere knitwear, and cigarettes by 2.8-87.3%.

Despite production growth, total industrial sales fell to MNT 7.1 trillion, down MNT 971.8 billion, mainly due to a MNT 1.3 trillion drop in mining sales, including a MNT 1.7 trillion decline in coal sales.

Export sales totaled MNT 4.8 trillion, with mining contributing MNT 4.7 trillion: coal (42.4%), metal ores (52.7%), crude oil (3.4%), and other minerals (1.5%).

EU Summit: What’s driving the agenda
EU Summit: What’s driving the agenda
EU leaders are meeting today to focus on defense spending, with discussions expected to center on Europe's military power and capital markets integration. Tensions could arise over Hungary's stance on continued Ukraine support, as all EU countries, except Hungary, are likely to back a separate text on Ukraine. The summit may run into a second day, as European Council President António Costa has indicated.

In defense, the EU aims to be "war-ready" by 2030, with plans to allocate €800 billion for defense gear, but detailed discussions will be limited. Leaders will also consider a €150 billion loan scheme for joint military purchases, excluding non-EU countries like the UK and Turkey.

On competitiveness, the EU will approve conclusions on reducing red tape and completing the energy union by 2030. The issue of central supervision of capital markets is a point of contention, with France pushing for central oversight, while smaller states like Luxembourg resist.

Migration will be discussed briefly, focusing on the safe third country concept and returns regulation. Leaders will also begin talks on the EU's long-term budget for 2028-2034, which will involve complex negotiations.

Savings and investments union: better financial opportunities for EU citizens and businesses
Savings and investments union: better financial opportunities for EU citizens and businesses
The Commission has adopted a new strategy to channel savings into productive investments, aiming to boost EU citizens' participation in capital markets through broader investment options and improved financial literacy.

Currently, 70% of household savings (€10 trillion) are in bank deposits, which are safe but yield lower returns than market investments. The strategy seeks to provide citizens with easier, low-cost access to investment opportunities, helping them build wealth and secure their future.

Increased capital market investments will drive economic growth, create better jobs, and enhance the EU banking sector’s competitiveness. EU institutions and stakeholders will collaborate on key measures in 2025 to strengthen financial integration and support the EU’s digital and green transitions.
