| About 80% of the drugs used in Mongolia are imported drugs. The following licenses were issued in 2022: 3,188 for standard substances for drugs and pharmaceutical raw materials, 3,987 for medical devices and auxiliary materials, 91 for diagnostic reagents, 155 state-controlled licenses, and 98 licenses for psychotropic drugs.
In 2022, 820 types of medicines were imported from 51 countries. Medicines from 458 global manufacturers were imported, higher than previous year. The import of medicine is increasing year by year. In 2015, drugs imports reached 128.8 billion MNT, and by 2022 imports reached 838 billion MNT. Sales of imported drugs are also growing steadily.
From 2015 to 2022, the number of drugs that do not meet quality standards, did not decrease. The quality of the medicine is assessed by testing it when it is registered for the first time. After five years, another test needs to be conducted for renewals.

Simone Z. Atanasovski, Regional Director for Central Asia and Mongolia at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development's (EBRD) Small and Medium Enterprise Finance and Development Department, has worked in Mongolia.
During her visit, Ms. Simone Z. Atanasovski met with the management of the Mongolian National Chamber for Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) to discuss the importance of enrolling young businessmen and startup entrepreneurs in training programs. The training, in addition to financial aid, would provide them with the opportunity to compete in national and overseas markets.
"There are many sectors in which EBRD and MNCCI can collaborate. We are happy that the views and initiatives of the Chamber align with our work line. We need to support the young generation in starting their businesses in broader ways," she said.
The MNCCI management introduced their work completed under the "Business Revival" National Program. They also informed Ms. Atanasovski that the initiative to enroll 10,000 young people in business training aimed at preparing the next generation of business leaders has begun implementing.
