EuroChamber Mongolia is pleased to announce that Austrian-Mongolian Business Forum will be held on 15 September 2023 at Shangri-la hotel.

"Business and Human Rights" Training on 21-22 September, 2023
EuroChamber Mongolia has been chosen as the contractor for the "Business and Human Rights" project, which is being implemented by the United Nations Development Program in Mongolia.

Within the framework of this initiative, EuroChamber will enhance the awareness of its member companies regarding the impact of business activities on human rights. It will explore the potential for safeguarding and upholding human rights through business operations. Additionally, EuroChamber will offer an assessment of "Business and Human Rights" for its members.

By engaging in the training and undergoing an evaluation within their own companies, our members can:
  • Amplify the potential for exporting products to developed markets like Europe and North America.
  • Unlock opportunities to secure loans and financial backing from international financial institutions and banks.
  • Garner the possibility of attracting investments from developed countries.
  • Elevate their reputation on the global market.
  • Establish avenues for supplying to international organizations and foreign-invested businesses operating within Mongolia.

The fourth Mongolia-China Expo commenced in Hohhot on the 6th of this month. Coinciding with the expo, Capitron Bank has expanded its cooperation with the world's number one bank, ICBC. Deputy CEO, Ch. Enkhbat, signed a letter of intent.

Capitron Bank has been working with ICBC since 2013 and, after nearly 10 years, the cooperation has been deepened with an expanded range of products and services.

On 7 September 2023, EuroChamber organised a meeting with Mongolian Honorary Consuls in Europe who are visiting Mongolia at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. EuroChamber team discussed with Honorary Consuls from Northern Ireland, Germany, Finland, Montenegro, Spain, Estonia, Denmark, Italy about working together to expand business relations between Europe and Mongolia.

The Serven 10MW solar power plant in Gobi-Altai Province inaugurated
On September 3, 2023, the "Serven" 10MW solar power plant in Gobi-Altai province was inaugurated. Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene attended the opening ceremony.

This plant is expected to generate 18.4 million kWh of electricity annually, benefiting 56,000 people from 16,000 households in Gobi-Altai province by improving power supply reliability and reducing transmission line losses.

Additionally, the project will contribute to increased water resources in the reservoir of the Taishir Hydropower Plant dam and significant reductions in carbon dioxide emissions, coal consumption, and water usage.

Chairman Zandanshatar Welcomes President of National Assembly of Laos
Chairman of the State Great Khural Zandanshatar Gombojav welcomed today the President of the National Assembly of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Xaysomphone Phomvihane, who is on an Official Visit to Mongolia at Sukhbaatar Square.

Following the Welcoming Ceremony at the Sukhbaatar Square, Chairman Zandanshatar and the President of the National Assembly Xaysomphone Phomvihane paid tribute to the Statue of the Great Emperor Chinggis Khaan. Then, Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane signed the Book of Honored Guests at the State Palace.

The Chairman of the State Great Khural Zandanshatar, and the President of the National Assembly Xaysomphone Phomvihane are now holding official talks. The two sides will discuss and exchange views on ways to expand friendly relations and fruitful cooperation between the two countries, particularly inter-parliamentary cooperation, and issues of mutual interest in the international and regional arenas.

Mongolian representatives are participating in the 4th Mongolia-China Expo
Representatives from 35 countries convened at the fourth joint Mongolian-Chinese expo held in Hohhot, the capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China. The event carried the slogan "Let's jointly build a new open system and share new development opportunities together."

The expo proceeded with the "National Economic and Trade Forum for the Open Development of the North," which was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, S. Amarsaikhan. He extended his best wishes for the success of the forum participants.

The "Mongolia-China Expo" has been successfully organized for the fourth time through collaborative efforts from both sides. This expo has had a multifaceted impact, deepening trade and economic cooperation between Mongolia and China, promoting economic growth in border regions, and significantly contributing to the expansion of regional trade, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange.

In addition, Minister of Road and Transport Development, S. Byambatsogt, took part in the forum and showcased the country's road transport infrastructure projects to potential investors.

This groundbreaking exhibition, dedicated to Chinggis Khan, one of history's most significant rulers, is set to open in France on October 14. The exhibition will showcase artifacts and treasures from major French and European museums and collections, alongside Mongolian national treasures and valuable heritage items.

This remarkable event is being organized with the support and endorsement of both the President of Mongolia and the Republic of France, marking a significant cultural exchange and celebration of history.
Total foreign trade turnover reached US$15.9 billion, a 19% year-on-year increase.

Based on the results of the first 8 months of this year, the total turnover of foreign trade reached US$15.9 billion, reflecting an increase of US$2.5 billion or 19.4 percent compared to the same period in 2022, as reported by the General Administration of Customs. Importantly, the amount of exports surpassed imports by US$4 billion, resulting in a positive foreign trade balance. This indicates a favorable trade climate for the country during this period.

Exports of goods and raw materials amounted to US$10,003.7 million, marking a notable increase of 29.0 percent when compared to the same period in the previous year. It is also noteworthy that a substantial portion, specifically 98.9 percent, of the exported goods were traded through foreign currency transactions.

Mongolia's exports reach a wide range of destinations, with goods being shipped to 74 different countries. The major export destinations are as follows:

  • 91.7 percent of exports go to China.
  • 3.5 percent of exports are directed to Switzerland.
  • 1.3 percent of exports are destined for South Korea.

On the import side, Mongolia imported a total of 5.9 billion US dollars' worth of goods and raw materials during the same period. This represents an increase of US$346.9 million or 6.2 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

Feasibility Study for Sewage Sludge Recycling Plant Launched
A feasibility study for the construction of a sewage sludge recycling plant in Ulaanbaatar is under progress. During the Ulaanbaatar-International Investment and Partnership Forum last April in Ulaanbaatar, the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, Keumgang Corporation of the Republic of Korea, and Ulaanbaatar Development Corporation JSC signed a tripartite memorandum. Following the memorandum "Keumgang-Three ENC" Corporation of South Korea is committed to providing funding for the development of the feasibility study for the construction of the sewage sludge recycling plant.

Chief Executive Officer of Ulaanbaatar Development Corporation JSC Bayarchimeg Nanzad and Head of the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority Ts. Turkhuu took part in the launching of the feasibility study and got acquainted with the operation of the Seonam wastewater treatment plant, which treats the wastewater of a large part of Seoul, South Korea, reports the Press and Public Communication Department of the Capital City Governor’s Office.

It was mutually agreed to secure KRW90 million from the United Association of Korean Groups and KRW 210 million from the "Keumgang-Three ENC" corporation, and the parties signed the agreement on July 28, 2023.
